January 7 - January 13, 1974-1978

1974

Mon – School. Ivan sick. Washed clothes. Eleanor called. Swept & mopped cellar. Changed sheets. Went to dairy. Took Greg to work. Fixed French fries & steak. Visited Iames. Watched TV.

Tue – School. Ivan home sick. Worked with Ivan on room project. Called Marion & Carol. Went to store. Grocery store closed (too late) & K-Mart.

Wed- School. Stan slept later. Went to Burkmanns. Chopped ice & snow from front walk. Took Greg to Dental Clinic. Ivan home sick. Stan & I cracked nuts.

Thu – School. Rain. Packed Julie’s lunch. Washed clothes. Made date cookies & date cake. Made turnovers & Bar B Q eye of round. Cleaned kitchen. Read & watched TV.

Fri – School. Cleaned living room. Took shower. Went to dairy & store. Took Harry to dental clinic. Carol & Elaine came for supper. Stan stuck with Datsun. Home very late.

Sat – Slept late. Stan & Bill went up to Latrobe to get Datsun. Gone all day. Washed clothes. Cleaned bedroom. Swept snow off porch. Made fire Popped corn. Called Bernice Evans. Frank slept at Conklin’s.

Sun – Called Marion. Went to store. Made meat loaf. Read paper. Knitted Julie booties. Watched Super Bowl VIII Kids got baths.

1975

Tue – School. Stan went to Saegertown. Frank home.

Wed – School. Baked chocolate chip cookies & cake. Cut out apron. Stan went to see about food stamps. Told about shop (disgusted). Took patterns & aprons to Mrs. Ondich. Called Marion.

Thu – School. Felt blue. Washed clothes. Made apron. Fixed smoked pork chops. Went to store. Took Ivan & Julie. Made ice tea & watched TV. Stan played ping pong.

Fri – School. Frank back. Cleaned house. Iced cake. Made veal parmesan & twists. Carol came for supper. Talked about business.

Sat – Washed clothes. Kids cleaned. Went to bookmobile & store. Called Marion. Watched Science TV. Visited Merry Jo McGee. Took recording of 1^st grade singing to hear.

Sun – Elaine called. Made Super Bowl soup. Read paper. Watched game. Pgh Steelers 16 – Vikings 6. Started to snow. Stan & I took walk. Kids got baths. Julie washed hair.

Mon – School. Stan took my car. Went to town. Saw Dr. & food stamps people. Got Harry from school. He took bus to town for Steelers parade. Went to store. Changed sheets. Washed clothes. Swept & mopped cellar.

1976

Wed – School. Dave’s day off. Snow. Stan went to bank (NSF notice in mail.) Got food stamps. Worked on Plymouth. Took to Bahanas. Sewed Julie’s top (peasant). Stan & I saw “Blazing Saddles”. Stopped at store. Frank called.

Thu – No school. 7 inches of snow. Kids made igloo. Washed clothes. Shoveled front walk. Knitted & watched TV.

Fri – School (-2). Bitter. Simca wouldn’t start. Took Stan then Dave to work. Went to town to see about food stamps. Laura called from Calif. Called Eleanor. Harry went to basketball game. Stayed overnight.

Sat – Washed clothes. Changed with Ivan. Washed lunch dishes (he did clothes). Kids set up bed for Frank. Cleaned. Harry & Greg went to Vince Likar’s to play bridge. Elaine called.

Sun – Snow changing to rain. Read paper. Called Marion. Chopped at ice. Made steaks & trimmings. Finished one sleeve & started new sleeve (H’s sweater).

Mon – School. Washed clothes (4 loads). Swept cellar – Frank mopped. Changed sheets. Frank home late for supper. Stan put up gutter across front steps. Stan went to Carbide Eng. meeting. Watched “Eleanor & Franklin” – TV.

Tue – School. Rain – melted snow. Took Frank to Southland. Went to store. Made stuffed peppers & cabbage. Took Dave to work. Took Ivan to Pitt dentist. Carol called. Cut Frank’s hair. Mrs. Hansen called about Julie (health room).

1977

Fri – School. Snow & wintry. Cleaned house. Mended. Greg went shopping after work. Got new jacket. Went to store. Drove Julie to Lancey’s. Wrong house. Very cold.

Sat – Washed clothes. Kids cleaned. Baked pumpkin cookies & fruit cocktail cake (ugh). Had pepper steak. Oven didn’t work right. Watched Hula bowl. Played cards.

Sun – Read paper. Cooked kielbossi & French toast. Went to Clairton – no flea market. Snow (not as much as expected). Used electric roasters. Watched Super Bowl (Oakland 32 – Minn 14). Watched TV. Kids played in snow & got baths.

Mon – School. Cold & snow. Stan got milk. Washed clothes. Swept & mopped. Changed sheets. Watched “Man with the Golden Gun”.

Tue – School. Very cold. Greg stayed home. Went to Murphy’s Mart & store. Stan got Harry at school (sick). Had steak & French fries – good. Played cards.

Wed – School. Harry home sick (-5 degrees) Called Marion. Cleaned out lazy susan. Played cards. Stan buildt fire.

Thu – School. Washed clothes. Carol came for lunch – saw kitty. Baked cake. Played cards. Watched TV.

1978

Sat – Mild day. Greg & Harry went to basketball game. Called Stella. Washed clothes. Mary came out – brought X-mas candy. Ivan & Frank came home from Dave’s. Greg got milk. Dave stopped.

Sun – Felt some better. Read paper. Baked cake. Made Bar B Q pork chops. Read. Kids got baths. Watched TV. Started to snow. Called Elaine.

Mon – No school. Snow & cold. Stan home sick. Washed clothes. Sewer came up. Marion called. Greg sent home early. Went to store. Buildt fire. Played cards.

Tue – No school (1 degree). Windy. Harry drove Greg to work. Kids slept til noon. Made pancakes, bread, pies. Julie made cookies. Harry made fire. Watched TV.

Wed – Still no school. Fires still going. Harry got more wood. Made banana cream pie. Called Eleanor. Went to store & milk store. Watched TV. Sewed top.

Thu – Kids back to school. Still cold. Carol moved to new house. Washed clothes. Wrote Heloise – called Marion & Eleanor. Read short stories & watched TV.

Fri – School. Cleaned off kitchen cabinets & salt & pepper shakers. Cleaned kitchen & bath. Bill H. stopped out. Frank cleaned upstairs bath & shoveled snow. Dave visited.
