September 2 - September 8, 1974-1978

1974

Mon – Labor day. Cool. Stan went to shop. Went to store. Took kids swimming. Picked lots of tomatoes. Fixed them. Carol & Jim came. Elaine, Don & Dottie came. Bill H. stopped. Eleanor called.

Tue - 1st day of school. Poured rain. Drove Julie to school with big box of tomatoes. Grace called. Washed clothes. Swept & mopped cellar. Stan home lunch time (sick). Went to bank & store. Took kids for glasses.

Wed- School. Stan home sick. Got ready. Drove Dave up to State College. Home again. Went for gas & milk. Had meeting for CTS at our house.

Thu – School. Washed clothes. Cleaned up David’s corner. Went to store. Cut front grass. Greg cut back. Weeded. Took Julie to Murphy Mart. Stan went to shop.

Fri – Made kapusta, cake, lasagna. Merry Jo McGee’s mother died. Kids took collection. Gave kapusta & tomatoes. Carol & Jim came with new Saab. Cleaned kitchen. Made jello salad. Away game Ring 7 – TJ 6.

Sat – Washed clothes. Stan went to shop. Cleaned. Elaine & Don stopped. Canned pears. Picked tomatoes, pears & peppers. Kids cut grass.

Sun – Slept late. Read paper. Worked tomatoes. Stan worked on awning. Fixed tomatoes. Canned. Elaine & Don stopped by. Weeded.

1975

Tue – first day of school. Washed clothes. Swept & mopped cellar. Started to bake cake. Dave stuck with car ( to take Ivan to dentist). Mr. Sajna helped us. Went swimming in evening . Got Sajnas ice cream.

Wed – School. Warmed up. Drove Stan to work. Trouble with carburetor. Drove Dave to Southland for bus. Went to store & bank. Made beef stroganoff. Got Stan. Greg & I went swimming. Marion called. Drove Frank to work (late).

Thu – School. Tired. Drove Stan to work. Went to bank & Gobbies. Dave & Frank went to McKeesport. Washed clothes. Got Ivan’s glasses. Kids & I went swimming for last time. Went to store. Marion’s (Scheuring) mother died.

Fri – School. Stan got his car started (hooray). Dave went to Southland. Mended. Cleaned kitchen & bath. Made casseroles. Family went to football game. Rain storm. Didn’t finish game. 0-0 at half.

Sat – Washed clothes. Picked grapes & made juice. Dan Arico came. Stan & I went to 2^nd half of game. Monessen 8 – TJ 7. Went to store.

Sun – Dave & kids worked around house. Made jelly – grape. Stan went to Jim Noll’s. Worked on accounts payable. Made sponge cake & brownies. Stan & I went to funeral home to see Marion’s mom.

Mon – School. Up early. Dave & I got dressed up. Went to Mrs. Scheuring’s funeral. (Dave pall bearer.) Washed 1 load of clothes. Made roast beef & cooked mushrooms. Bill & Carolyn came. Brought us 2 peach pies. Gave grapes & jelly.

1976

Thu – Greg & I didn’t feel well. Stan had iritis. Cleaned out lazy susan. Teachers started strike. Harry had late afternoon practice. Made peanut butter cookies with choc. chips.

Fri – Stan went to eye & ear hospital for iritis. Stan & Harry took Plymouth to junk yard. Cleaned house. Dave cooked Bar-B-Q pork for supper. Went to TJ Football game. Harry played. Julie & Ivan went, too. TJ 42 – Canevin 6.

Sat – Washed clothes. Took Pontiac to Jim’s to get spare tire. Drove out to Bill’s K-Mart but too late for Harry to help. Went to store. Had soup & hot dogs. Frank here. Watched TV.

Sun – Made potato salad. Picked & fixed grapes. Canned 8 qts & made ½ gal juice. Cleaned up mess. Watched TV & knitted. Fellows made paper airplanes. Dave worked Ponderosa.

Mon – Labor day. Read paper in bed. Washed clothes. Went to Sears – crowded. Made chili. Boys went swimming (cool). Dave worked. Knitted Julie’s sweater.

Tue – Greg & I started back to work. Fan belt broke on Pontiac – Harry drove us in Simca. Dave cooked fish supper. Very good. Harry had football practice.

Wed – Greg & I worked. Hot day. Knitted Julie’s sweater. Washed 1 load of clothes. Tired.

1977

Fri – Hot & humid. Cleaned house. Kids went to see “Star Wars”. Rainstorm & winds. Stan hurt arm. We went to Murphy Mart & Clabers.

Sat – Drove Frank to work. Washed clothes. Went to store. Harry got milk – Greg got dufflebag. Kids went swimming. Harry cut grass. Mower broke – Harry fixed. Watched football on TV. Pitt & Ookies.

Sun – Marion called. Carol came on motorbike. We all went swimming. Nice day. Picked tomatoes & squash. Fixed squash (for cookies). Watched TV. Bill & Stella came (late).

Mon – Labor Day. Nice day. We went swimming. Julie went with Lisa to her pool. Ivan cut some grass. Watered. Watched TV. Kids got showers.

Tue – 1^st day of school. Frank didn’t work (sick). Washed clothes. Swept & mopped cellar. Greg packed. Harry & Greg went to play football. Watched “Logan’s Run”.

Wed – Up early. School. Drove Frank to work. Greg drove out to airport. Got flight to Louisiana. Stopped at store. Stan had flat tire. Harry had car. Bob Iames took me over to shop. Brought car home.

Thu – School. Stan drove Frank to work. Stan went to Ohio. Washed clothes. Made split pea soup, macaroni salad, apple pizza, fried chicken. Harry went to town for eye exam.

1978

Sat – Washed clothes. Greg came over. Sorted clothes. Ivan cleaned up bedroom. Stan worked on tar. Had to get cement mixer for Bill H. Canned tomatoes. Bill & Carolyn stopped.

Sun – Dave drove Stan to get Subaru. Went to Hatfield’s with handle. Stopped at Murphy’s & Giant Eagle. Stan worked on tar. Went for mild. Watched TV.

Mon – Labor day. Nice. Dave worked. We took Dave’s car & Greg took Subaru. Went to Carol’s for picnic. All went well. Greg watched game & stayed overnight.

Tue – Back to school. Greg went in with Dad. Washed clothes. Swept & mopped cellar. Frank went to school. Sorted clothes. Went to store. Had steak & mushrooms. Called Mary.

Wed – School. Hot. Worked on Dave’s drapes. Drove Ivan to Schwinn. Made chili & rice crispy cookies. Cut back grass. Julie got hair cut.

Thu – School. Planted new grass seed & spread around dirt. Watered. Washed clothes. Greg came home with Dad. Went to store. Talked to Elizabeth Simmons. Fixed pizza.

Fri –School. Watered grass seeds. Cleaned house. Took apart Carol’s drapes. Hot & humid. Stan, Julie & I went to show “Heaven Can Wait”.
