August 26 - September 1, 1974-1978

1974

Mon – Washed clothes. Swept & mopped. Kids sorted lumber. Took it to Bill at shop. Kids & I went swimming. Made macaroni salad. Washed hair & towels. Cleaned refrid.Drove Chris home. Made juice.

Tue – Didn’t go to PP (monthly). Took Greg to State eye exam (failed). Stopped at Eastland. Took kids swimming. Fixed peaches. Weeded. Rain. Stan went to shop. Marion called. Knitted.

Wed- Rain. Stan went late. Fixed tomatoes. Took Harry to football practice. Had lunch cleanup. Kids went swimming. Not Ivan – earache. Made spaghetti. Worked on Frank’s sweater. Julie helped bake cake.

Thu – Rain. Iced cake. Washed clothes. Changed sheets. Dottie & Elaine came for supper. Frank got shirts, slacks, jeans & money. Guys came for Elaine & Dottie. Went to drive-in. Got milk.

Fri – Went to bank & store. Sorted mail. Took kids swimming. Went to Jims. Got 2 new tires. Made stew. Ate late. Frank home sick. Marion called. Guys watched football game.

Sat – Laura Slater called. Bill H. called. Washed. Went to store. Julie cooked supper. Stan went to Great Wall. Got Ivan from swimming. Cleaned house. Played pinochle. Ken Gheno and Bob Prososky looked at shop.

Sun – Laura called again. Drove Frank to get truck. (He helped her move.) Drove kids to show. Poured. Rt. 51 like a river. Fixed fruit. Stan worked at shop. Kids played football in mud.

1975

Tue – Hot. Filed payments. Mailed checks. Picked tomatoes & corn. Fixed big pot of tomatoes. Made kapusta. Rained. Stan & I went for Simca parts. Dave called. Stan went down to get him (station). Canned 9 qts. tomatoes.

Wed – Water was shut off. Julie & Ivan went to Clairton to Baker’s. We all went swimming (Dave, too). Stan picked up Simca. Stan went back to shop. Read.

Thu – Washed clothes. Went to Murphy Mart & Giant Eagle. Mixed blueberry cake & birthday cake. Went swimming. Kids cut grass. Kids went to Baker’s for party. Bill & Carolyn came.

Fri – Kids cleaned. Iced cake. Picked tomatoes (9 qts). Made roast chicken & stuffing. Had Frank for birthday. Got jeans, underpants & right guard. Bill came to get Julie.

Sat – Rain. Slept late. Cleaned. Washed clothes. Cleaned kitchen & bath. Made pepper steak. Watched Steeler game. Went swimming. Left early – rain.

Sun – Rain. Read paper. Stan couldn’t get car started. Bill brought Julie home. Looked at car. Had left over stuffed chicken. Carol & Jim came out. Trimmed Dave’s hair.

Mon – Labor Day. Light rain. Cleaned out drain. Planted & trimmed hedge. Stan & boys cleaned out garage. Dave cooked supper (chili). Julie made dessert. Kids got baths. Frank worked.

1976

Thu – Greg & I worked. Rain in afternoon. Bruce Bressinger stopped at Tumacs. Fixed hot dogs & baked beans. Marion called.

Fri – Greg & I worked. Went to Best Steak House with Debbie & Margo. Ivan fixed steak for supper. Went to store. Got Julie tennis shoes for school.

Sat – Hot & humid. Washed clothes. Slept late. Elaine came with Lee (from Maryland). Rain. I went to store. (Plymouth sick). Had melon balls, corn on cob & kielbossi. Visited. Watched TV.

Sun – Read paper & iced cake. Went to Phyllis’s for jeans. Kids went swimming. Got milk. Had backed chicken for Frank’s birthday dinner. Got undershirts & socks. (Money from Dave.)

Mon – Washed all upstairs sheets, blankets & mattress covers. Mended clothes. Tired. Cooler. Remade beds. Marion called. Weeded & trimmed hedge. Kids cut grass.

Tue – Weeded strawberry hill – 3 garbage cans full. Cleaned out refrigerator. Stan started iritis. Harry had evening practice. Dave took Ivan to Dental. Went to K-Mart & Siegels.

Wed – Washed clothes. Did Dave’s & our mattress covers & blankets. Tired. Called Marion about sauerkraut recipe.

1977

Fri – Took Frank to work. Went to store. Wrapped last of presents. Cleaned house. Kids went swimming. Greg drove to Gubalas to change place with Harry. Both slept over. Weeded hill. Elaine came.

Sat – Stan took Frank to work. Greg & Harry finished work at Gubalas. Elaine & Julie went to see Bill at work. Washed clothes. Iced cake. Made lasagna. Frank home late. Had 21^st birthday party. Julie went to Bill & Carolyn’s. Elaine went to Andrea.

Sun – Stan up early – drove Frank to work. Elaine called – said good-bye. Worked on hill in back. Julie at zoo, Ivan swimming, Greg & Harry went to Carol’s. Hot – laid around. Got showers.

Mon – Hot & humid. Washed clothes. Swept & mopped cellar. Went to store. Kids & I went swimming. Had left over lasagna. Read my new Good Housekeeping. Bruce, Robin & baby came. Visited. Rain.

Tue – Cloudy. Stan took Frank to work. Cleaned up crab apples. Made stuffed peppers & galumpkies. Made squash cookies. Frank took car in evening to work at Eastland. No money left. I was mad at him.

Wed – Frank didn’t work. Washed clothes. Cut front grass. Reseeded spots. Watered. Kids went swimming. Had fresh pears from yard. Stan & I went to Greengate Mall. Saw “Star Wars”. Home late.

Thu – Frank didn’t work. Went to McKeesport. Swept up crab apples. Went to the store. Fixed fish. Kids went swimming. Harry & Julie went to Aunt Helen’s. Stopped at Eleanor’s.

1978

Sat – Nice day. Stan drove me out to take cat to Humane Society. Went to Eastland. Got Greg’s linens. Washed clothes. Packed Greg’s glasses. Watched football. Harry worked.

Sun – Read paper. Hot & humid. Gathered rubbish. Sprayed carpet (fleas). Cleaned up – stairs tub & sink. Put chemicals down drain. Julie came home from Bill & Carolyn’s. Had new slacks. Started on Volvo. Called Eleanor.

Mon – Stan went to work early (Datsun). Harry drove Greg to work (Subaru). Harry took car. Washed clothes. Swept & mopped cellar. Went to store. Harry bought new stereo. Dave came. Thunderstorm.

Tue – Stan went to Latrobe. Greg went to Penn State. He & Harry worked on Volvo. Dave came. Had chicken & birthday cake. Frank got shirt, belt & 2 jeans. Dave came here after work.

Wed – Ivan & Julie had 1^st day school. Wrote Elaine. Made spaghetti & sour cream twists. Dave here. Greg quit Ponderosa. He worked on Volvo. Bill stopped. Watched TV.

Thu – Washed clothes. Mended. Rain. Stan brought home corn. Stan got truck. Helped Greg & Dave move. Washed bedding. Bill & Carolyn came. Watched Soap. Took truck back.

Fri – Up early. Fixed Harry breakfast. Harry left for Army. Thoroughly cleaned kitchen. Went to store.
