August 13 - 19, 1969-1973

1969

Wed- Washed clothes. Disconnected washer & painted cellar wall. Went to K-Mart and then to town to pick up Carol.

Thu – Dave drove Stan to work. Took Buick to check gas leak. Painted cellar. Dad stopped out. Stan went bowling. Went to Kroger. Picked up Carol, Janet & Don.

Fri – Muggy. Went to Penney’s, Grants & Bartalotta’s. Made cake with pineapple whipped cream icing. Stan got sweater, undershirts & shorts, splicer & car putty. Got kids shoes. Sue stayed all night.

Sat – Stan went to work in morning. Washed clothes & ironed. Carol went to store. Elaine fixed pizza. Rain. Stan sorted things in cellar. Watched “Arsenic & Old Lace”.

Sun – Carol went up to Indiana. Painted cellar wall at Stan’s work bench. Dave finished at shelves for jars. Stan visited Pap. Called Mary. Cut out & sewed Elaine’s pant dress.

Mon – Washed clothes. Folded & ironed. Rain. Went to Foodland, White Cross, K-Mart. Took Frank to Olson’s to pick birthday presents early.

Tue – Terrible storm & rain. Fried donuts. Went to Acme, Sears & bookmobile. Cut out material.

1970

Thu – Washed clothes. Changed boys sheets. Ironed & put away. Stan played golf. Stan & I & kids went to Renzie Park for food fair – wrong day. Stopped at Eat & Park.

Fri – Wrote checks. Went to bank & store. Picked tomatoes & fixed them. Cleaned the kitchen Took Ivan for shoes & shopping.

Sat – Washed clothes. Carol went shopping. Then got call to get Greg. Swept cellar. Harry mopped. Had cake – bought (48 candles). Stan got robe, T-shirts, belt, keychain & bowling bag from Carol. Dad called – Mary broke hip.

Sun – Hot & humid. Made chicken soup. Stopped at Wendy’s with birthday present. Went to Dad’s. He & I went to SS Hospital to see Mary. Stopped at Haines. Stan & I weeded. Carol took Janey to Indiana.

Mon – Washed clothes. Washed hair. Canned tomato sauce. Ironed. Ivan & I laryngitis. Made kapusta. Stan home late. Mended clothes. Carol took car – went to Dr. Siegel.

Tue – Went to Eastland. Got shirts. Went to Southland. Took back robe. Went to Bartalotta’s. Drove Stan to airport. (To Elmira). Took Ivan, Harry & Julie to White Swan park on way home.

Wed – Took Firebird for check-up. Picked corn. Cooked & fixed. Got car & went to Sears. Started Elaine’s poncho. Rained.

1971

Fri – Sewed Elaine’s gown. Kids cleaned. Went to Plaidland & store. Carol ordered invitations. Diane & Jane came up. Wrote Mary. Worked on letter for Eliza. Taylor.

Sat – Wrote letter. Washed clothes. Went to store. Took kids to football practice. Tried to cut out Carol’s lining. Took Elaine to K-Mart for uniform. Stan visited Pap.

Sun – Iced cake. Fixed potatoes. Stan golfed. Had Stan’s birthday at lunch. (shirts & shorts). Took Frank to Hospital. Bought store chicken. Carol’s Jim stayed. Watched TV. Rained.

Mon – Washed clothes. Went to hospital to visit Frank (ear operation). Pretty good. Went to store. Bill H. stopped out. Drove Elaine to Dr. Maloy’s office. Cut out wedding gown. Went to town to get Carol.

Tue – Drove Elaine to work (first day), then Carol. Worked on wedding gown. Stan went to Clairton about cards. Dave visited Frank. Weeded. Carol, Jane & Stan went to “R House”. Bill fixed Jaguar.

Wed – Hot day. Took Elaine & then Carol to work. Sewed & ironed. Took Dave Conklin to see Frank (to go home tomorrow). Dave worked. Picked corn & strawberries. Mary & Caroline came out.

Thu – Stan got Frank at hospital. Washed clothes. Ironed. Sewed. Carol J. & Janie stopped. Made choc. chip cookies. Stan & I went for short ride.

1972

Sun – Slept later. Read paper. Relaxed. Transplanted phlox. Stan worked on Dave’s car. Stan planted seed on golf mound. Spread dirt.

Mon – Washed clothes. Didn’t turn heat on dryer. Hung outside. Elaine’s friends came from Calif (blind – Rick). Bill H. stopped out. Ate supper. Went to store.

Tue – Went shopping for Stan’s birthday. Made lemon meringue & apple pies. Fixed steak. Stan got shirts – 2 ties – sweater- razor- 16 month calendar. Carol called.

Wed – Straightened. Painted back & cellar door. Started cellar steps. Eleanor came out. Started green afghan. Worked on dirt.

Thu – Washed hair. Washed clothes. Took Frank to doctor. Went to McKeesport. Battery dead. Called for Bill. Long wait. Got Frank. Stopped at McDonald’s. Tired.

Fri – Kids cleaned. Stan home sick (feet and face swollen). Went to PTA meeting at school. Planned programs. Cleaned house. Stan, Julie, Ivan & I went to Youth Symphony Concert – rained.

Sat – Baked cookies (Gobs) for Fireman’s bake sale. Bill got projector. Made strawberry pie for dessert. Stan went to Gobbies. Elaine’s brakes failed. Knocked off Benack’s gas meter. Stan dug ditch. (Got fire truck.) Bill H. came out.

1973

Mon – Washed clothes. Swept cellar. Dave mopped. Went to South Hills Village & Grants & Krogers. Weeded front.

Tue – Froze & canned peaches. Cleaned up. Made chicken. Went to store. Bill Hat. Came out. Talked to Mary on phone. Elaine went to Pitt about bill.

Wed – Baked cake. Picked & canned tomatoes. Made veal cordon bleu. Got Stan lottery tickets. Went to store. Bill H. came out again.

Thu – Drove Dave to work. Washed clothes. Went to bank & store. Went to bicycle shop with 2 wheels to be fixed. Picked up Dave. Stan & Dave went to Caroline’s. Weeded.

Fri – Kids helped me clean. I cleaned upstairs bedroom & bath. Picked tomatoes. Canned tomatoes. Played cards. Dave hitch-hiked to State College.

Sat – Washed clothes. Went to store. Made stuffed peppers. Frank Hinkel here for supper. Dave came home. Bill H. here. Wrote letter to Aunt Levina.

Sun – Slept late. Stan took boys to Caroline’s. Dug drainage ditch. I wrote to Bill & weeded. Made turkey & stuffing & strawberry cheese cake. Carol & Jim stopped out.
